Nothing OS 4.0 launch teasers begin ahead of Android 16 update
Nothing has started promoting Nothing OS 4.0, based on the recently released Android 16. This follows Google’s launch of Android 16 in June and Nothing’s previous commitment to deliver the update “later this autumn,” announced during the early July launch of the Nothing Phone (3).
The company has shared teasers on social media, including a short video highlighting redesigned icons.
Nothing OS 4.0 is described as undergoing a refinement and redefinition process, suggesting notable improvements to the user experience.

Nothing devices receiving Android 16 update
The Nothing Phone (3) will be the first device to get the Android 16-based update. The original Nothing Phone (1) will not be included in the main rollout, as it has reached the end of its three-year software support commitment that began with its release in July 2022.
This aligns with Nothing’s promise of providing three years of updates.
Support for early adopters of Phone (1)
Nothing CEO Carl Pei mentioned that the company is creating “a program” specifically for early adopters of the Phone (1). The details are limited, but this hints that these users might still access Android 16 through a beta program or separate channel.
Pei has not confirmed any definitive plans, leaving the exact nature of the program uncertain but here is everything almost certain right now:
- Nothing OS 4.0 is based on Android 16
- Nothing Phone (3) is the first device to receive the update
- Nothing Phone (1) ends regular support after three years
- Early adopters may get Android 16 through a special program
- Teasers highlight redesigned icons and refined user experience
